Terms of Service
Last updated: February 22, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Pilos Agents ("the Software"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
2. Licensing
Open Core (MIT License)
The core Pilos Agents desktop application is released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the core software, subject to the MIT License conditions.
Extensions (BUSL-1.1)
Some features (multi-agent team mode, advanced MCP integrations, Jira integration, team sync and other extended functionality) are licensed under the Business Source License 1.1 (BUSL-1.1) rather than MIT. They are included at no charge and require no licence key.
- Granted free of charge for use with Pilos Agents; no purchase is required
- The BUSL-1.1 converts to the MIT License after 4 years from each release date
- Source code for these extensions is available for inspection but not for redistribution
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Share, resell, or redistribute the Software as your own product
- Use the Software to develop a competing product that repackages substantially similar functionality
- Use the Software in violation of applicable laws or regulations
4. Claude Code CLI & Your Data
Pilos Agents requires the Claude Code CLI to function. AI interactions are handled entirely by the CLI using your Anthropic account. You are responsible for:
- Installing and authenticating the Claude Code CLI
- Complying with Anthropic's terms of service
- Any content generated through the Software via the Claude Code CLI
We do not have access to, control over, or responsibility for your Anthropic account, your conversations, or your project data. All AI processing is handled by the Claude Code CLI on your machine.
5. Price
Pilos Agents is provided free of charge. There are no paid plans, no subscription and no licence to purchase.
- We are not currently selling the Software, and we take no payment for it
- If we introduce paid plans in future, we will announce it in advance and will not retroactively charge for use that already happened
- Customers who bought a plan before the Software became free keep it until it lapses, and may cancel at any time via Settings → Account; nothing is lost by cancelling, since all features are now free
6. Accounts
- An account (email and password) is optional and unlocks no additional features
- It exists to sync your work across devices and to use cloud-backed features such as the Work Day Reporter
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential
- We reserve the right to suspend accounts used in violation of these terms
7. Open Source Contributions
Contributions to the open source core are governed by the repository's Contributing Guide. By submitting a pull request, you agree to license your contribution under the MIT License.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or inappropriate suggestions. You are responsible for reviewing and validating all output before use in production.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL PILOS AGENTS OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE.
Our total liability for any claim related to the Software shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Software in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 50.
10. Intellectual Property
Subject to the MIT and BUSL-1.1 licenses described above:
- Your content: You retain all rights to your code, conversations, project files, and any content you create using Pilos Agents. We claim no ownership over your work.
- Our software: Pilos Agents, its branding, and its extensions remain the intellectual property of Pilos Agents and its contributors, subject to the applicable licenses.
- Custom agents: Custom agent configurations you create are your property. We do not access, collect, or claim rights to your agent definitions.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Pilos Agents, its contributors, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Software, violation of these terms, or infringement of any third-party rights.
12. Termination
- By you: You may stop using the Software at any time. To delete your account, contact support@pilos.net.
- By us: We may suspend or terminate your account and access to cloud-backed features if you violate these terms, including use in violation of the Acceptable Use section. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination.
- Effect of termination: Upon termination, cloud-backed features stop working. The Software remains available under the MIT License, and your local data is unaffected.
13. Dispute Resolution
In the event of a dispute arising from these terms:
- Informal resolution: You agree to first contact us at legal@pilos.net and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
- Binding arbitration: If the dispute is not resolved informally, it shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Commercial Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall be conducted in the State of Delaware.
- Small claims: Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court as an alternative to arbitration.
- Class action waiver: You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis. You waive any right to participate in a class action, class arbitration, or representative proceeding.
14. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
15. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Significant changes will be announced on our GitHub repository and website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
16. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
